The original depicts the moment when Adam and Eve mourn the murder of their son Abel (by their other son, Cain). What does it do to the picture to have the first humans mourn a cyborg? The cyborg’s body is much more mutilated than the human body in the original–partly to show that he isn’t actually a human, but perhaps suggesting more.

  1. Wow, this is really thought provoking. It plays on many levels, for example, how technology is a child of human parents. Why do we feel sad when we lose our tools. Are we not mourning the loss of our own capabilities?

Also, there is something here about how we make emotional responses to some (not all) types of inanimate objects. To robots or other things which we imbue with human qualities, but not, for example, to paperclips.
