  1. I really enjoyed this PJ. Taking the narrative from the relatively mundane fiddling with the lifestream into the (frankly weird!) cyborg shenanigans of the Robot Cafe, via your spoof of ‘Memory 2′, made for a really entertaining artefact – it must’ve been great fun to film.

I like the way you’ve linked up some of the themes of block 2 while keeping the comedic effect – you’ve managed to make links across our work on mind/body, posthumanism, cyborgism, and also create some links forward to the notions of programming/being programmed that we’ll look at in the final block. Nice job!

I’d love to hear whether you answered your own questions: ‘Will he lose his mind? Will he solve his ’embed code’ problem?’

    1. Sian, thanks for comments. As I mentioned via email, this practical exercise was a confidence-builder for me, but ‘high risk’ as I had never really produced a digital video single-handedly on short notice. When my props (cyborg mask and t-shirt) did not arrive by last Friday, I went into creative panic mode hoping that the interior lighting at the Robot Restaurant would support the filming. After technical difficulties with Google hangout at 0500 that Friday morning, I had to muster courage to persevere with the project. My own questions ‘Will he lose his mind? Will he solve his ‘embed code’ problem?’ were intended to be ‘cheeky’ and left up to the viewer to interpret the final scene. Since we don’t see PJ emerge as a cyborgian, post-human in the scene (per the original script), we might assume that he did not lose his mind, hence the ‘mellow’ music at the end before credits, and that he resolved his ’embed code’ problem by the implanting of the necessary code by Mr. T. An inside story is that I actually had to visit the washroom (which is prohibited due to the dynamic stage set) about an hour into the Robot Restaurant show. At one point, if you watch the video, you’ll see the PJ character waving his hand as if he’s had enough (“losing his mind”), but the robotic fantasy scenes continue to play out as if in his sub-conscious mind, as the code is further implanting,,, culminating in T’s catch phrase “Don’t worry, I got you.” That is, PJ has not lost his mind, and his ’embed code’ problem was resolved.
