The idea of an aircraft and pilot being seen as one self-govering mechanism triggered a new argument around posthumanism for me, and has also made me consider what other human/technology relationships could fall into the same catagory. Considering the three fundemental themes of posthumansim from Wiener; a single entity where organic and inorganic are merged, no conceptual differences between the two and reducable to patterned and unpatterned information, would the following be considered a selfgoverning mechansim?
A formula 1 driver/car – Very similar to the aircraft example, the driver/team is controlling every aspects of the car working in perfect conjunction with each other.
A gamer constructing a world in Minecraft/Computer – There are certainly features of the machine and human working in harmony to construct the virtual world consisting of both human imagination and technological capabilities. However, as the human is only controlling part of the machine (unlike the aircraft example), they can be seen as two seperate entities.
